Grace Barnes, Psy.D. is a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in providing psychotherapy and assessment services to children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Barnes has extensive training and experience in completing comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations and oversees the assessment and testing services at Anxiety Specialists of Atlanta. Her approach to assessment is to not only illuminate areas of weakness, but also to better understand areas of strength. She enjoys the process of supporting clients by developing specific recommendations for learning, behavioral, or emotional challenges. Her training and experience allows her to easily work within various settings and collaboratively with other treatment providers, such as speech and occupational therapists, medical providers, and school systems.

In therapy, Dr. Barnes provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other empirically-driven modalities for treatment of a variety of mental health conditions including mood and anxiety disorders, family dysfunction, relationship difficulties, as well as difficulties associated with executive dysfunction. With teens and adults, Dr. Barnes addresses key areas of relationship functioning, self-esteem, health and body image concerns, as well and anxiety and depression triggered by life’s challenges. Dr. Barnes is also specialized in working with children and adolescents with social anxiety and social skills difficulties, emotional distress, strong-willed tendencies, impulsivity problems, learning differences, and ADHD-related difficulties. Dr. Barnes works closely with clients to develop a client-centered approach to treatment. In individual therapy, Dr. Barnes seeks to assist each client in self-discovery, skills building, improving self-esteem and resiliency, and enhancing personal growth.

Dr. Barnes completed her graduate degree in 2007 and has been working independently in private practice since that time. She completed pre-doctoral training at an APA-approved consortium site in North Carolina where she provided inpatient and outpatient mental health assessment and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults. She has experience working in a wide variety of treatment settings. She completed her undergraduate degree at Emory University and completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees at Georgia School of Professional Psychology.

Personally, Dr. Barnes and her husband are busy with a new baby, learning all the exciting and challenging aspects of being a first time parent. In her spare time, she enjoys family time, travel, working with animal rescue, and her new family dog. She also loves spending time in nature and practicing yoga.
