This in-person therapy group is for teens (aged 14-17) identifying as LGBTQIA+ living with anxiety, led by Jessie Jensen, LPC. This group will meet weekly with the goal of providing support and understanding through interpersonal connections, while learning skills of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, cognitive restructuring, assertiveness, and more.
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the National Social Anxiety Center, LGBTQIA+ teens are at higher risk of developing mental health disorders due to a combination of bullying, stigma, rejection, and shame. These can lead to the development of unhealthy or negative core beliefs about oneself and the world. This group aims to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ teens to discuss their anxiety with their peers while learning skills to be able to address and challenge thought patterns and social dynamics.
